REALITY???: Wrath of Dreams was a collaborative piece made by the students of the Showtime Ensemble program and Sonia Goldberg during an eight week devising process where we explored different genres, plotting devices, character creation techniques, etc, to create a one-act play from scratch. In this play, we explore themes of greed, corruption, loss and jope as we follow three teens who engage in a clinical trial for extra cash, only to discover that they have been injected with a serum that takes them into a virtual reality against their will. As they struggle to find a way out of the simulation and back to their normal selves, we see from all perspectives the reason for greed, and how compassion and hope can overcome all obstacles.

FABULATION: Or, The Re-Education of Undine by Lynn Nottage is a tale of a woman who has it all, and then promptly loses it in the blink of an eye. Undine Barnes-Calles is stripped of her money, notoriety and identity as the hottest PR agent in early 2000's New York City following the news that her then husband has embezzled her for all that she’s worth, and even more troubling, has left her pregnant. We follow Undine as she attempts to reconstruct her life and rediscovers her roots as Sharona, navigating life as a soon to be mother and realizing where truth wealth lies – in family and the loved ones you old dear. Through vibrant colors that represent her fantastical monologues, interpreting her mind state and emotions as well as the environment around her, FABULATION is a whirlwind of laughter, tears, heartbreak and triumph of a black woman surviving.

The Ladies Ring Shout from the women of Honey Pot Productions was an experience unlike any other. A culminations of heartfelt confessions of the experiences of black women, LRS takes you on an emotional journey about love, loss, sensuality, and the connection we as black women have to ourselves and to each other. It was a pleasure to work with these women to bring such intimate, heartfelt and emotional experiences to life on the stage.

Juana and the Missing Mayan Book by Ruccio Cabrera was my first introduction to the art of puppetry, and has been one of the most fun experiences I’ve had to date. Working with projection and using the shadows to the advantage, it was an interesting experience in learning how to design a puppet show enlarged for the stage, and I was more than proud of the looks I was able to create to enhance Juana’s story and the journey to rediscovering her heritage.

WORK IN PROGRESS: ABORT, choregraphed by Kierra “Ki Ki” King and performed with Deja Hood, produced in tandem with Alyssa Gregory, was a contemporary dance piece created in response to the overturning of Roe V. Wade in June 2022. Exploring the emotions of bodily autonomy and the effects such a decision has on black femme bodies, this project called for several looks to emphasize passionate, rage, despair and hope for a future in which black women and femmes must advocate even more fiercely for the rights over our own bodies.
